LONDON — Tottenham reportedly made a late bid today to bring World Cup star striker Diego Forlan back to the English Premier League.

The London club was understood to have bid around $27 million (£17 million) for the 31-year-old after failing in a pursuit for his Atletico Madrid teammate, Sergio Aguero, who signed a new contract Monday to stay in the Spanish capital.

The former Manchester United player, who was voted the best player at last year’s World Cup, was recently watched by Spurs boss Harry Redknapp.

Forlan, who led Uruguay to the semi-finals in South Africa, has scored nine times in 26 appearances for Atletico this season.Read more: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12040_6714223,00.html
