Hasheem Thabeet tied a school record by blocking 10 shots and added 15 points and 11 rebounds to record his first career triple-double as No. 2 Connecticut staked its claim to the No. 1 spot in the nation with a 94-61 blowout over Providence yesterday in Storrs, Conn.

A.J. Price led UConn (20-1, 9-1 Big East) with 19 points. Randall Hanke had 16 points for Providence (14-7, 6-3).

In Piscataway, Jaron Griffin scored a season-high 16 points in his first start of the season, Mike Rosario also scored 16 and Rutgers (10-12, 1-8 Big East) snapped a nine-game losing streak and avoided its worst start since joining the conference by defeating DePaul (8-14, 0-9).

In Manhattan, Jason Miller scored 14 points and Patrick Foley scored five straight points to trigger an 11-2 second-half spurt that lifted Columbia (7-11, 2-2 Ivy League) over Brown (6-12, 0-4).

In Emmitsburg, Md., Jeremy Goode scored 17 points and Mount St. Mary’s (13-9, 8-3 NEC) defeated Wagner (10-11, 3-8).

In Hamden, Conn., Justin Rutty and Bryan Geffen scored 16 points each to lead Quinnipiac (9-12, 5-6 NEC) over Long Island University (10-11, 6-4), which got 18 points from Julian Boyd.
