SAN FRANCISCO — Police were investigating Sunday after two men were shot and wounded, one critically, outside San Francisco’s Candlestick Park in the aftermath of Saturday night’s preseason game between the 49ers and the Oakland Raiders.
Police confirmed the shootings happened around 8:00pm local time, shortly after the 49ers’ 17-3 victory, KTVU reported.
A man wearing Raiders apparel was detained on a party bus in the parking lot of the stadium shortly after the incidents, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
A 24-year-old man, who was wearing a T-Shirt emblazoned with “F— the 49ers,” was said to be in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital after reportedly being shot two to four times in the stomach.
He had driven a pickup truck to the parking lot entrance and was discovered after stumbling out of the vehicle. Police said it was unclear whether he had been shot before or after entering the truck.
The second shooting victim, 20, was in stable condition in the hospital having been discovered in a different section of the parking lot. He had superficial wounds to his face, police Sgt. Frank Harrell said.
Harrell said that while no link was yet established between the two victims, “we are treating it as separate shootings, but we believe they are related.” It also was still to be confirmed that the men attended Saturday night’s game.
Bay City News, meanwhile, reported that a 26-year-old man suffered life-threatening injuries while being knocked unconscious in an assault in a stadium restroom during the game. No link was drawn with that incident and the later shootings.
