The U.S. National Team can breathe a sigh of relief: Goalkeeper Tim Howard is cleared to play.

After Howard was examined this morning, the team’s medical staff decided there is no need for any more testing on the keeper. An official release said he was making “substantial improvement and is expected to be available for the match against Slovenia.”

The North Brunswick (N.J.) native had taken a boot to his right side from England forward Emile Heskey in the 29th minute while making a diving clearance on a dangerous cross. He stayed down on the play for 3 minutes, but played through the pain to make six saves and earn Man of the Match honors in a 1-1 draw with the favored English team.

The United States plays Slovenia on Friday in Johannesburg before finishing Group C play against Algeria on June 23 in Tshwane/Pretoria.
