The U.S. National Team suffered a 3-1 World Cup qualifying loss in Costa Rica that wasn’t even as close as the screline indicated. They coughed up an Alvaro Saborio goal 1:19 in _ the second-fastest tally they’d ever allowed in a qualifier _ and got thoroughly outclassed from start to finish.

Nobody should be shocked at a loss to the Ticos; they have seven losses and a tie all-time in qualifiers at Costa Rica. But it’s their secind straight shaky performance on the road in Central America, and the got outhustled and outplayed, the Ticos picking them apart with crisp ball movement and savvy runs off the ball.

Costa Rica leapfrogged the U.S. into first place in the CONCACAF finals with nine points. The U.S. is second with seven, and returns home Saturday to face Amado Guevara and Honduras, the last team to win a qualifier on U.S. soil, a 3-2 decision in Washington, D.C. back in 2001. I covered that tilt and the Hondurans just took over RFK Stadium.

Did you watch the U.S. game? And what did you think of their performance? Can’t wait to get Costa Rica on U.S. soil in October? Share your thoughts below….
