Apparently the powers-that-be are serious about bringing the World Cup back stateside.
On Monday, U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati will talk about the Federation’s plan to submit a simultaneous bid to FIFA for BOTH the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. He’ll also introduce the Executive Director of the USA Bid Committee.
The U.S. is a strong contender for 2018, but the field is tough, with England in it. (Aren’t they getting the Olympics in 2012? Damn, leave a brother SOMETHING!)
FIFA had set Monday as the deadline for federations to file their official paperwork expressing their interest to bid for either…or both. This early in the process, the onlt thing countries had to be able to do was show their ability to put on an event this large. Clearly, with the U.S., and the stadiums and infrastucture, that part is a layup.
What do you think of this news? Obviously check in with us, but just as important, check back in with us Monday….
