Rays pitcher David Price often takes to twitter to praise his fellow baseball players, as he did earlier in the season calling Mets sensation Matt Harvey his new favorite player. But on Sunday, he used his twitter account to bash an umpire.
During Sunday’s 8-3 win over the White Sox, Price threw what he thought was a strike to Dewayne Wise in the seventh inning, but home plate umpire Tom Hallion called it a ball. Price claimed that Hallion then said to him, “Throw the ball over the [expletive] plate”. The Rays dugout was furious when they heard that, and it got worse after the game with Hallion’s comments.
Hallion told reporters after the game that Price was a liar and he didn’t use that language.
“I’ll come right out bluntly and say [Price] is a liar. I’m denying what he said I said pretty strongly.”, Hallion said. “I said, ‘Just throw the ball.’”
But Price responded to that via his twitter account Sunday posting several tweets, one which read: “Think our entire dugout would ERUPT cause an ump told me to throw the ball over the plate? No, I’m sorry that wouldn’t happen #accountability.”
Price may not have been happy with Hallion, but earned his first win of the season on Sunday, and had a season-high nine strikeouts.
