Mike Repole’s Uncle Mo, last year’s 2-year-old Eclipse Champion and former Kentucky Derby hopeful, arrived at Saratoga Race Course yesterday after a two-month recovery at WinStar Farm in Kentucky.

The 3-year-old colt will be stabled at trainer Todd Pletcher’s barn on the Oklahoma backstretch with the hopes of starting in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop on Travers Day on Aug. 27.

“He looked great,” Pletcher’s assistant Whit Beckman said. “I hadn’t seen him since April when he was shipped to Kentucky for the Derby. Then, he was a little skinny. Now, he looks 10 times better. He was walking great around here. He noticed people were looking at him. So, he put up his ears, turned his head, and gave them a pose.”

Uncle Mo suffered his first career defeat in the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct on April 9 when he finished third as the heavy favorite and has not raced since. The colt was withdrawn from the May 7 Kentucky Derby the day before the race and later was found to be suffering from cholangiohepatitis, a severe inflammation of the bile passages and liver. Uncle Mo had been galloping while at WinStar Farm, but no announcement has been made as to when his next workout will be.
