Todd Pletcher’s 3-year-old stars Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty turned in uncharacteristically fast half-mile workouts yesterday for their Breeders’ Cup prep races on Saturday.
Uncle Mo, with John Velazquez up, sizzled a bullet :46.57 for the Kelso mile. Stay Thirsty went in :47.07 under Javier Castellano for the Jockey Club Gold Cup.
“They both went probably faster than you want them to go, but I don’t think Mo knows the word ‘slow,’ so 46 for him is like 50 for everybody else,” said Mike Repole, who owns both colts and plans to run them back in the Nov. 5 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs. There, they will meet To Honor and Serve, who won last Saturday’s Pennsylvania Derby for trainer Bill Mott in a stakes record 1:47.34 for the 1 miles.
