It looks like Liverpool’s title chances in the Premier League are officially dead; and it was U.S. National Team standout Clint Dempsey that delivered the coup de grace, the final goal in a 3-1 Fulham victory.

A week after Liverpool beat beat three-time champion Manchester United, Fulham handed them their fifth loss of the season, all but ending their EPL title hopes. Yes, the Reds didn’t help their own cause, getting not one but two red cards in a hideous display. But Fulham were actually the better team going forward, and Dempsey was involved in most of their attacking ideas.

Erik Nevland came on at halftime and scored. Then when Bobby Zamora fed the ball to Nevland, he exchanged passes with Dempsey. The Texan sliced through the Liverpool defense _ such as it was at that point, down to nine men _ and slotted home an easy left-footed goal from close range in the 87th minute.

Here is an account from Fulham’s official website, and some video.
