A US Olympic bobsledder was arrested in Whistler on suspicion of domestic assault, it emerged Thursday.

Fox News confirmed his name as Bill Schuffenhauer.

IOC Spokesman Patrick Sandusky told Fox News: “We understand that late last evening Bill Schuffenhauer, a member of the U.S. bobsled team, was detained and released by authorities in Whistler. At this point we are awaiting further details.”

The 30-year-old was alleged to have assaulted his common-law partner in Whistler, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said, according to a report in The Vancouver Sun.

He was arrested on Wednesday and released on a cash bond to appear in court April 21.

Police are recommending charges of assault and uttering threats, The Vancouver Sun reported.
