Tottenham controlled from the start, and Dempsey put them ahead in the 13th minute when he beat his marker and tapped Gareth Bale’s flick past keeper Joe Murphy.

His deflected shot minutes later fell to Bale, and the Welshman doubled the lead. And in the 37th minute, Dempsey got to a Bale cross back post and put a perfectly-placed header over a pair of defenders and far post for a 3-0 lead.
