The US Women’s National Team not only survived the so-called Group of Death at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, but won it. Their reward? A Round of 16 date with Colombia, and what appears to be a favorable path to the semifinals.

After finishing atop Group D, the US will now be heavy favorites against Colombia on Monday, June 22 at 8 p.m. at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton on Fox Sports 1.

The US has routed their South American foe by identical 3-0 scorelines in their only two prior meetings.

The US drilled Colombia in group play of the 2011 World Cup, on goals by Heather O’Reilly, Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd. Then they beat their CONMEBOL foes again in group play of the 2012 London Olympics on goals by Rapinoe and Lloyd again, with Abby Wambach scoring as well.

Should the United States advance against Colombia – and they will be expected to do just that – they would play the China-Cameroon winner in the quarterfinals.
