There isn’t a Giants fan alive who could have picked Boise State’s Chris Peterson out of a lineup this time last week. And there isn’t a Giants fan alive who, if the Giants get smoked today, won’t wonder, just a little, if Peterson’s schoolyard playbook might translate to the next level. If, as it’s been hinted, Bill Belichick’s problem with Eric Mangini is that Mangenius tried to hire people away from New England on his way out the door, that’s an interesting reason to hold a grudge, since when Belichick performed his coup d’etat on the Jets, he took everything and everybody (specifically Charlie Weis, Mangini and Scott Pioli) that wasn’t nailed down at Ewbank Hall.
