I hope Junior Griffey‘s return to Seattle gives Mariners fans one last thanks-for-the-memories jolt, the way Tom Seaver‘s return to the Mets allowed Mets fans a similar season-long farewell 26 years ago. But it’s worth remembering that the ’83 Seaver, though he was still serviceable, was a shadow of Tom Terrific. And for anyone who remembers the player Griffey was in his first incarnation in Seattle … well, seeing him in a familiar old uniform has a chance to be just as melancholy as anything else, because there was no more enjoyable player to watch, maybe ever, than Junior in his prime, patrolling the Kingdome with his glove and reaching her upper decks with his bat.

Let’s just say it isn’t looking good that in the tenuously-related-to-you department, A-Rod‘s relationship with Yuri Sucart ends any more, shall we say, amicably than Tony Soprano‘s ended with Christopher Moltisanti.
