Vikings president and co-owner Mark Wilf talked with reporters today at a charity event and to no one’s surprise Brett Favre was the main topic of discussion.
It should also come as no surprise that after the Q&A, there were more questions than answers.
Is your team interested in signing Favre?
“Certainly a player of Brett Favre’s (credentials), a Hall of Fame quarterback, with the competitive he has, that is a player that we would have interest as we would have other players,” Wilf said. “But, again, its process of evaluation and a variety of factors that go into it and that has to play itself out and I defer to our coach and our personnel people to really evaluate those issues.”
Has anyone in your organization met with Favre in the last week?
“I’m not aware of any meeting,” Wilf said.
And if there was a meeting, he wouldn’t have told reporters anyhow.
“But, the fact is, like I say, any football personnel matters, medical matters, those types of issues, are really issues that we don’t typically discuss publicly,” Wilf said. “. And I hope the fans and the media can appreciate that. Because that’s the right way, we feel, to get the best product on the field and get our ultimate goal of a Super Bowl championship.”
Last week, Yahoo reported Favre had told the Vikings that he wasn’t going to the sign with them and planned to stay retired. Any truth to that?
“What I can tell you is that type of decision is up to Brett Favre, and I’ll leave it up to Brett Favre to give you that type of answer,” Wilf said.
Yahoo is sticking by their report, which first appeared on their Web site on Thursday. But if it is true why hasn’t Favre confirmed this to put an end to this madness? Either he loves attention that much or it’s not true.
ESPN is currently sticking to their story that Favre sent X-rays to Minnesota for team doctors to evaluate. No one has confirmed or denied these rumors.
