Things are so bad for the Mets these days that even their former prospects are having a tough time.

Brewers center fielder Carlos Gomez mistook a foul ball for a home run Wednesday afternoon and obliviously ran all the way around the bases without realizing it. He then struck out in an eventual 7-6 loss to the Phillies.

Gomez played 58 games with the Mets and was a highly touted outfielder in their minor league system. The team traded him to the Twins as part of the Johan Santana deal in Feb. 2008. He’s been with the Brewers since the 2010 season.
