WHALEY: I’M NO ANNIKA
Suzy Whaley is looking forward to playing against the men at the PGA Tour’s Greater Hartford Open next month. But she wants to make it clear that she’s no Annika Sorenstam.
“Annika’s day job is to play on [the LPGA] Tour,” Whaley said. “My day job isn’t.”
Whaley normally puts in about “80 hours a week,” as the head pro at Blue Fox Run Golf Course in Avon, Conn. But she has focused more intently on her golf game after becoming the first woman to earn a spot in an official PGA Tour event by winning the Connecticut section PGA Championship last September.
Whaley has accepted a sponsor’s exemption to play in the Sybase Big Apple Classic on July 14-20, at Wykagyl Country, the week before the GHO.
