It’s that time of year again.
The 2011 Wheelchair Charities HS Basketball Classic is back next week for a 38th installment at Long Island University in Downtown Brooklyn. And this time things have expanded to accommodate younger players. The first games of each day – Monday through Thursday – will be freshman and sophomore all-star contests. The girls championship for juniors and seniors will be Wednesday and the boys title game is Thursday.
As always, all proceeds go toward Coler-Goldwater Hospital on Roosevelt Island, which specializes in treating those confined to wheelchairs. Every player competing next week is required to visit the hospital and write an essay about the experience.
