TENNESSEE (-6¹/₂) over Florida: Tennessee had a poor performance in the opener against Appalachian State, but I picked the Volunteers to rebound the following week in this column and that’s exactly what happened in a 45-24 win over Virginia Tech. Now the Vols are coming off a poor performance last week against Ohio and I’m expecting another bounce-back performance this week.
Tennessee let a double-digit fourth-quarter lead slip away last year, but that won’t happen this year. Florida has won 11 in a row in this series, but that streak ends here.
MISSISSIPPI (-7) over Georgia: Don’t let the records of these two teams sway you. Sure Ole Miss is 1-2, while Georgia is 3-0 and ranked in the Top 25, but there’s a reason why the Rebels are favored. Ole Miss led Florida State 28-6 and Alabama 28-3 before losing both games, but the Bulldogs don’t have the firepower on offense to match those comebacks. Georgia barely beat FCS Nicholls two weeks ago and got an 80-yard drive ending with a 20-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-10 to beat Missouri by one point last week.
Last week (NCAA): 1-1.
Season: 4-2.
