With the Mets heading into this weekend one game under .500, co-owner Fred Wilpon is interested in wins, not retaliation.
“The only thing that matters is winning the game,” Wilpon told The Post. “That is the only thing.”
The fact Roger Clemens is finally pitching at Shea is a sidelight. It is easy to understand why Wilpon’s focus is on the record instead of getting even.
He and Nelson Doubleday are shelling out $105 million in player salaries. The Mets have always claimed the difference between making money and not making money is qualifying for the postseason. Soon, the Mets will be solely Wilpon’s, as he is in the process of buying Doubleday’s half of the team.
