TENNIS: Roddick advances to fourth round

In Key Biscayne, Fla., Andy Roddick is into the fourth round at the Sony Ericsson Open with a 7-6 (9), 6-2 victory over Dmitry Tursunov. On the women’s side, top-ranked Serena Williams, seeking a record sixth Key Biscayne title, reached the round of 16 by beating Peng Shuai, while Venus Williams defeated Anna-Lena Groenefeld. No. 7-seeded Ana Ivanovic lost to No. 25 Agnes Szavay, and No. 2 Dinara Safina was beaten by unseeded Samantha Stosur.

WOMEN’S NCAA: UConn rolls on

In Trenton, N.J., Connecticut freshman Tiffany Hayes scored a career-high 28 points as the undefeated Huskies beat California 77-53 to advance to their 14th regional final in the last 16 seasons. UConn will play Arizona State, which defeated Texas A&M, 84-69, tomorrow with a trip to the Final Four at stake. Rutgers lost to Purdue, 67-61.

NASCAR: Johnson wins again

In Martinsville, Va., Jimmie Johnson nudged Denny Hamlin aside in the third and fourth turns with 15 laps to go and gave team owner Rick Hendrick a perfect place to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his first victory in NASCAR’s premier series: Victory Lane.

ETC.: Fergus holds off O’Meara

In Cap Cana, Dominican Republic, Keith Fergus holed out with a wedge from 95 yards on the 17th hole, capping a dramatic rally from four shots down to win the Cap Cana Championship. . . . In Seville, Spain, Soren Kjeldsen won the Andalucian Open. . . . In Phoenix, Karrie Webb shot a 5-under 67 for a two-stroke win in the J Golf LPGA International.

* Boston University advanced to the Frozen Four for the first time in 12 years, beating New Hampshire 2-1. The Terriers will face Hockey East rival Vermont in the national semifinals on April 9 in Washington. Bemidji State, a 4-1 winner over Cornell, will face Miami of Ohio in the other semifinal.

* Liberty freshman guard Seth Curry, the high-scoring younger brother of Davidson star Stephen Curry, will transfer to Duke.
