A year ago, it almost didn’t seem as if St. Raymond’s was even interested in the state Catholic title game and the Ravens were upset by Christ the King.

On Friday, however, the entire team was in the stands to see today’s opponent, which turned out to be Xaverian.

“We’re much more into it this time,” Ricky Torres said of St. Raymond’s, which will face Xaverian today at Fordham at 2 p.m. “We know what’s at stake.”

Christ the King will look for another girls state Catholic AA title today when it faces St. Peter’s and McDonald’s All-American Nikki Anosike at St. John’s at 5 p.m. The Royals are looking to make their 20th straight appearance in the state Federation tournament. That game will be preceded by the CHSAA A championship between Molloy and Mount Mercy (Buffalo) at 3 p.m.
