TELFAIR EYES THIRD TITLE
When asked what his favorite subject in school was, Sebastian Telfair didn’t hesitate.
“It’s economics,” the senior from Lincoln said. “That’s real interesting to me right now.”
He quickly added that he was joking, but Telfair might not have been stretching the truth all that much. He has until May 10 to enter his name into the NBA Draft, something he is expected to do.
Still, at a press conference yesterday at the Garden for tomorrow’s PSAL championship game between third-seeded Lincoln and No. 1 Cardozo, he wanted to focus on history.
When he arrived at Lincoln as a freshman, he set some pretty lofty goals.
“I wanted to win four championships,” Telfair said. “I was a young kid, I thought I could do it.”
That dream ended with an 18-point semifinal loss to Robeson that first year. It was the last time the Railsplitters lost a playoff game. Telfair and his teammates have a chance to become the first team to win that title three consecutive years.
Clinton won three straight championships between 1916-1919, but there was no title in 1917.
“When I saw him as a freshman, I knew that if I wanted to win a championship in the next four years, I’d have to go through him, over him or around him,” Cardozo head coach Ron Naclerio said.
