U.S. National Team coach Bob Bradley has picked the 20-man training roster that will prepare for the all-important World Cup qualifier in Mexico City. This group will be cut down to 18 for the pivotal payback game in Azteca.
Keeper: Brad Guzan – Aston Villa
Tim Howard – Everton
Defender: Carlos Bocanegra – Stade Rennes
Jonathan Bornstein – Chivas USA
Steve Cherundolo – Hannover 96
Jay DeMerit – Watford
Chad Marshall – Columbus Crew
Oguchi Onyewu – AC Milan
Jonathan Spector – West Ham United
Midfield: Michael Bradley – Borussia Monchengladbach
Ricardo Clark – Houston Dynamo
Clint Dempsey – Fulham
Benny Feilhaber – AGF Aarhus
Stuart Holden – Houston Dynamo
Jose Francisco Torres – Pachuca
Striker: Jozy Altidore – Hull City
Conor Casey – Colorado Rapids
Brian Ching – Houston Dynamo
Charlie Davies – Sochaux
Landon Donovan – Los Angeles Galaxy
Obviously Houston midfielder Stuart Holden did himself some good with his Gold Cup all-tournament performances. I’m not a betting man, but I’d wager if Maurice Edu were healthy he would’ve been on this list instead of Holden, and if Kenny Cooper hadn’t just made a move to Germany, he might’ve been picked over Casey.
