PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — Tiger Woods is usually about as enthusiastic about taking a stand on issues as he is about revealing anything about his personal life.

But when asked yesterday about the use of belly putters in the game, he was effusive in his opinion, saying he’s completely opposed to their use.

The question came on the heels an announcement the USGA and R&A are looking at the possibility of implementing a rule that would outlaw belly putters, which some believe provides players an unfair advantage.

“I’ve never been a fan of it,’’ Woods said. “I believe it’s the art of controlling the body and club and swinging the pendulum motion. I believe that’s how it should be played. I’m a traditionalist when it comes to that.

“My idea was to have it so that the putter would be equal to or less than the shortest club in your bag,’’ Woods said.

Keegan Bradley won the PGA Championship last August using the belly putter, becoming the first player to do so in a major.
