Ron Artest Sr., the father of Lakers forward Metta World Peace, is staging a three-day AAU basketball tournament next weekend (May 17-19) at the New York Gauchos gym in The Bronx.

The all-star event will benefit the Artest Foundation, which is donating the weekend’s proceeds to programs promoting education on gun violence in the wake of last December’s Newtown, Conn. Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings.

There will also be halfcourt and free-throw shooting contests as well as an auction.

Among the auction items will be several donated by Knicks star Carmelo Anthony.
