The last time Clemson stepped onto the field at Bobby Dodd Stadium, it dropped 73 points on host Georgia Tech. Oddsmakers aren’t expecting much of a fight this time, either.
This game almost certainly won’t be as lopsided as that one, but the fourth-ranked Tigers (-22.5) are still dealing as more than three-touchdown favorites over the Yellow Jackets, who have dropped seven straight in this series with six losses by at least two scores.
The lone exception was last year’s 8-point Clemson win, the closest margin in this series since 2009. But that was a different team than the one that will suit up on Monday — and D.J. Uiagalelei is a different quarterback, too.
Clemson’s offense this season is far from the best it’s been under coach Dabo Swinney. Getty ImagesThe former five-star recruit threw for just 126 yards in last year’s affair, the fifth start of his career. He’s posted at least 200 yards in four of his 10 starts since, and he should be able to exploit a Georgia Tech defense that ranked among the worst in FBS a year ago.
This year’s unit is littered with transfers and new coaches, which may be a good thing long term but suggests growing pains in Week 1. That’s especially true if an uninspiring front seven can’t generate a pass rush against this elite Clemson offensive line.

The Tigers are 5-1-1 against the spread during their seven-game win streak versus the Yellow Jackets, who are still rebuilding on both sides of the ball. Clemson should be back to its old ways against one of its favorite punching bags.
