Buffalo continued its great run of college basketball success on Friday with its 98-96 overtime win against No. 13 West Virginia. The Bulls’ next task is hitting the road to face a Southern Illinois bunch that had a lead on Kentucky in Rupp Arena with under 13 minutes left to play before falling 71-59.
C.J. Massinburg is the star of this game as Buffalo’s senior guard registered 17 points and 7.3 rebounds per game as a junior last season and hung 43 points and 14 rebounds on nine made 3s in the team’s conquest of West Virginia.
Southern Illinois is a team that would prefer to bang the ball down in the paint while Buffalo has a shiftier offense that shoots a bunch of 3s. While the Salukis can slow things down, they lost the rebound battle against Kentucky 48-19 with three players picking up at least four fouls.
The Bulls should be able to get Southern Illinois into a similar bind with foul trouble as they drew 24 fouls in each of their first two games to begin the season.
The play: Buffalo, -3
