The last time we saw Kirk Cousins and the Vikings, they were getting shut down by the Eagles in prime time. Don’t let that performance sway you though. Minnesota is in a spot to rebound this Sunday against Detroit.

We all know Cousins struggles in prime time, and he was especially bad against the Eagles — just throwing balls up into coverage without even looking. But if history is any indicator, Cousins will bounce back when playing a bad defense. The Lions qualify as a bad defense.

Through two games, Detroit ranks 30th in total defense, 31st in scoring defense and 28th against the pass. That all adds up to the Vikings’ offense having its most productive game of the young season on Sunday.

Sometimes we can fall into recency bias as bettors and go off the last thing we saw from a team. I wouldn’t be too worried, however, about Cousins and company. Justin Jefferson caught six balls for just 48 yards and running back Dalvin Cook was held to 17 yards rushing on Monday night. There aren’t many defenses that can hold that duo to 65 total yards, and the Lions certainly aren’t one of them.

Betting on College Football?

Look for Cook and Jefferson to get going against an undermanned Detroit defense. Jefferson, in particular, should feast on a Lions secondary that’s arguably the weakest in the NFL. Detroit could keep up in this game for a half or so, but sooner or later the Vikings will pull away to cover at home.

The play: Vikings -5.5
