Despite getting bullied by the Yankees and Red Sox, the Mariners are surprise contenders in the American League. Seattle was 28-14 at home and took a seven-game win streak into Tuesday.

Mike Leake, 4-1 with a 2.22 ERA in his past eight starts, gets the July 4 start against the free-falling Angels. Leake beat the same lineup on June 12 by allowing one run in six innings.

If Leake can pitch around Mike Trout, the right-hander should put Seattle in position to win as a home favorite. The Angels, 2-7 in their past nine games, limped into this series with a patchwork rotation and beat-up bullpen.

The play: Mariners -105 over Angels.
