We’ve been cruising with betting Unders on team totals recently, especially when Iowa is involved. Why not go back to the well on Friday against a lousy Nebraska offense in a world of hurt?

That’s true both figuratively and literally. Starting quarterback Casey Thompson missed two games with a concerning elbow nerve injury and didn’t quite look right in his return, completing 12 of 20 passes for a season-low 106 yards in the Cornhuskers’ 15-14 loss to Wisconsin.

That extended a lowly dismal run for Nebraska’s offense, which had scored 13 or fewer points in each of its previous three games — including a measly three points in the game before Thompson’s return. Even last week’s effort was worse than it looked, as the Cornhuskers mustered 171 total yards and finished just two drives in the Badgers’ territory.

Do we really expect this group, which has scored 14 or fewer points in five of its past six games, to come alive against this vaunted Iowa defense? By now, you should know the Hawkeyes’ bona fides: they rank sixth in points allowed to FBS competition (14.6 ppg), second in opponent yards per play (4.0), and third in opponent points per play (0.2).

Betting on College Football?

Last week, Iowa limited Minnesota’s offense to just 10 points in the absence of starting quarterback Tanner Morgan. That marked the fourth consecutive game in which the Hawkeyes held their opponent to 13 points or fewer and the ninth time in 11 games. Godspeed to the Cornhuskers offense.

The play: Nebraska team total Under 13.5.
