Early on this college basketball season, Wagner were making their case for the face of the Northeast Conference at the NCAA Tournament. At 17-2, many thought the Seahawks would be the year’s surprise package.

Favored to win the NEC Tournament, Bryant has emerged as a threat to earn the automatic bid. The Bulldogs ran through conference play with a 16-2 record to earn their first No. 1 seed in the NEC Tournament in program history.

Bryant has only made the NEC tournament final once in its history, and having lost the Championship game in 2021, the Bulldogs are out for vengeance.

After Central Connecticut’s narrow win over FDU on Monday, we are now down to eight teams. The first conference tournament to begin, and it promises to be an exciting one.

The conference’s inaugural tournament was in the 1981/82 season, in which Robert Morris (now members of the Horizon league) took home the title. 

Ironically, Robert Morris holds the most NEC Tournament Championships with nine, seconded by current NEC team LIU. 

Mount St. Mary was the last team to reach the NCAA tournament in 2021, where they lost in the first four. 

Bryant, Sacred Heart and St. Francis Brookyln have never qualified, with Terriers being one of four original NCAA Division 1 members never to do so.
