Blake Snell is one of many pitchers who have frantic home and road splits in 2021, and the former Cy Young winner will look to give the Padres a good start on Friday against the visiting Colorado Rockies.
In San Diego, Snell has a 1.43 ERA with 55 strikeouts across 37 ²/₃ innings and opponents are hitting .167. On the road, his ERA balloons to 9.09 with opponents hitting .313.
Colorado’s Kyle Freeland has performed much better in his past three starts with one run surrendered in a combined 17 innings after having a 12.79 ERA with nine home runs allowed in his three previous starts. The Rockies are the only team with single-digit road wins, entering Thursday 6-33 away from Coors Field. They had scored an MLB-worst 2.67 runs per game and were hitting .196 on the road compared to a league-best .280 at home.
With the Rockies road woes coupled with Snell’s home dominance and the Padres entering Friday having scored four runs or fewer in five of their last seven games against Colorado, this should be a light-hitting Friday at Petco Park.
The play: Rockies-Padres total, Under 8.5 runs.
