Thursday Night Football brings us the New York Jets at the Baltimore Ravens in the biggest NFL weeknight mismatch since Week 8 when the Minnesota Vikings hosted the Washington Redskins and Week 9 when the San Francisco 49ers visited the Arizona Cardinals.

But the point spread isn’t called “the great equalizer” for nothing and makes this game watchable, especially as we’re making the Jets our VSiN Top Play to cover as double-digit underdogs just like the Redskins and Cardinals did in those earlier mismatches.

Everyone is on the Baltimore bandwagon — and for good reason, as the Ravens have won nine straight games (6-3 against the spread for their backers) and currently stand at 11-2 straight up as the AFC’s No. 1 seed and around a 5/2 Super Bowl favorite in the sportsbooks from Jersey to Vegas.

However, all that has made oddsmakers put this spread at more than two touchdowns, and I’m happy to take the inflated points. Sure, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Ravens win in a rout the way they did against the Bengals, Texans and Rams, but I don’t believe it’s the foregone conclusion that a lot of people are assuming.

I’m most encouraged by the Jets having the No. 7 defense in yards allowed per game and No. 2 against the run (allowing just 78.8 yards per game). We’re certainly aware that the Ravens are No. 1 in rushing at 200.9 yards per game and it’s much different from defending your typical NFL team with QB Lamar Jackson running wild, but he’s nursing a quad injury, so we might see his scrambling less of an issue for Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams.

Besides, even though the Ravens are averaging a league-high 33.1 points per game, look at their past two games against high-ranked defenses as they were held to 20 and 24 points, respectively, in their wins over the 49ers and Bills. If the Jets can hold the Ravens to somewhere in that range (27 points at the most), Sam Darnold and the offense should be able to do enough to cover this huge spread.

With this prime-time TV matchup, this is pretty much the 2019 Jets’ Super Bowl. Speaking of bowling, Le’Veon Bell should be back in the lineup to help strike fear in a Baltimore team that passed on him in free agency.

The Play: Jets, +15.
