Michigan (Pick) over NOTRE DAME: Now is the time for Jim Harbaugh. No more excuses. The Wolverines boast what might be the nation’s top defense, which returns nine starters after allowing only 18.8 points and 271 yards per game last season. Harbaugh finally has found an NFL-caliber quarterback in Mississippi transfer Shea Patterson. Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly lost a lot of talent to the NFL and has the inferior QB. Without a doubt, Michigan has the more talented team. With two legit defenses on the field, look under the total of 47. If Patterson is the real deal, he should be the difference in a narrow win for the Wolverines.
Brigham Young (+12) over ARIZONA: With junior quarterback Khalil Tate and his dynamic playmaking ability, the Wildcats are the sexy side. On the flip side, BYU is as sexy as a grandmother in a bikini. But the Cougars, coming off a dreadful 4-9 season, are experienced and led by a senior quarterback in Tanner Mangum. See through the Tate hype and go with the hungry ’dog. Take the points with BYU, and don’t be surprised if the line inflates to 14 by kickoff Saturday night.
