A new coach and a new offense have not led to an improved Aaron Rodgers. Green Bay is winning with defense and a quarterback who’s a game manager. Although that sounds strange, it’s true.
There’s nothing wrong with Rodgers, but he’s not a fantasy football star. Rodgers has completed 62.8 percent of his passes with six touchdowns through five games. When the Packers rolled to a 34-24 win at Dallas last week, Rodgers did not have a touchdown pass and Aaron Jones rushed for four scores. The Cowboys actually outgained the Packers 8.3 yards per play to 5.2, but Green Bay built a 31-3 lead with the help of a plus-three turnover margin.
Rodgers will be without wide receiver Davante Adams, one of his top playmakers, in Monday night’s game against the Lions, who have attracted sharp money as road underdogs. The Packers are 17-10-1 Under the total in their past 28 games with Rodgers starting when the home team is favored.
Detroit quarterback Matthew Stafford is 12-40 ATS when facing opponents that made the playoffs that season, and Green Bay appears to be headed for the postseason, so this is a pass on the four-point ’dog.
If the Packers win, it probably will be due to their defense, running attack and an efficient Rodgers, who has thrown only one interception this season.
The play: Under 46.
