Dave Tuley, senior reporter at VSiN, has joined the Post’s Bettor’s Guide for the 2018 NFL season. His handicapping pieces appear in VSiN’s online magazine, Point Spread Weekly.
Saints (+2¹/₂) over RAVENS: The Saints have won four straight since the season-opening loss to the Buccaneers and have covered three in a row. They have the No. 3 offense (424 yards per game). Granted, the Ravens have the No. 1 defense (270.8 yards per game), but in today’s NFL, a great offense actually trumps a great defense. Besides, I’m emboldened by the Saints already having taken their show on the road to the East Coast with a win at the Giants in Week 4. One for the trend geeks: The Saints are on a 7-2 straight up and 8-1 against the spread run after their bye week.
Bengals (+6) at CHIEFS: The market is giving the Chiefs a lot of respect (which is understandable as they’re 6-0 ATS for their backers and nearly beat the Patriots in prime time), but not giving the Bengals enough for their fast start and nearly beating the Steelers. Though Cincy’s offense isn’t as prolific as K.C.’s, it still averages 29 points and has a better defense (not by a huge margin, but I do trust it more to bend but not break). This should be another shootout (Over/Under is 58¹/₂) that comes down to a three- or four-point margin either way. Take the points.
Last week: 1-0-1
Season: 4-7-1.
