The most impressive mustache in college football belongs to Gardner Minshew, the quarterback of the nation’s top surprise team. Washington State (10-1) blew by its regular-season win total in October and appears headed for the Pac-12 title game. A spot in the four-team playoff is a long shot.

Next up is the Apple Cup rivalry against Washington, Mike Leach’s nemesis. The Huskies (8-3) arrive in Pullman on Friday night for a winner-take-all battle for the Pac-12 North. Leach has been blown out five consecutive times by Washington: 41-14, 45-17 and 45-10 during the past three years. But this meeting looks a lot different.

The Cougars boast the nation’s top passing offense and a defense ranked in the top 20, the latter being rare for Leach, who tried to bolt for the Tennessee job in the offseason and now has his best team.

The play: Washington State, -2¹/₂. This rivalry has been owned by Washington, but this is WSU’s year.
