The private-equity firm Silver Lake, Alibaba Group Holding and Russia’s Digital Sky Technologies are discussing a possible joint bid for Yahoo!, three people with direct knowledge of the matter said.

The group contacted Yahoo and its advisers in recent weeks to inform them of a possible offer, said one of the people. The discussions are still at an early stage, the people said.

The would-be partners are girding for potential opposition from US regulators.
