Analysts say Apple Music, to debut Tuesday, may steamroll past rivals Spotify, Rdio and Pandora. Apple, however, has said little about the service. Here are answers to a few consumer questions:
How can I subscribe?
Apple Music will come as part of the iOS 8.4 update for the iPhone, available for download at 11 a.m. Tuesday. One hour later, Apple’s Beats 1 radio goes live.
What will Apple Music cost?
Apple Music kicks off with a free three-month trial. After that, subscriptions cost $9.99 a month for individuals and $14.99 for families (up to six people).
What do I get for that?
Unlimited listening to Apple Music’s catalog of “tens of millions” of songs, playlists curated by humans rather than computers, access to the exclusive “Connect” platform — where artists publish unheard outtakes and interviews, communicating directly with fans.
What’s so great about Beats 1 radio?
It replaces the now-defunct iTunes Radio. Beats 1 is expected to offer exclusive songs and interviews with artists. Playlists will also be curated by tastemakers like Rolling Stone, Shazam and the Grand Ole Opry.
