‘Bad boy’ guilty of fraud
Wall Street “bad boy” Ross Mandell may have to put off plans for his reality-TV show for up to 65 years.
After taking the case Friday, a jury in Manhattan federal court late yesterday found the founder of defunct brokerage firm Sky Capital and his top salesman, Adam Harrington, guilty of four counts of conspiracy and fraud.
The brokerage duo were released pending sentencing, although Judge Paul Crotty said he would consider the government’s request that they be remanded ahead of sentencing.
Mandell, 54, has been on trial since late June on charges that he cheated investors out of $140 million through a complex scheme that involved pumping shares of pipe-dream companies that never materialized and spending the proceeds on fancy watches, first-class flights and outings to London strip club “Stringfellows.”
Mandell has been vocally fighting the case since his July 2009 arrest, loudly proclaiming his innocence and even pushing a reality-TV show based on his fight against the charges, called “Facing Life.”
