Standard Hotel owner Andre Balazs is among the developers eyeing an opportunity to build a boutique hotel at the empty Eero Saarinen-designed terminal at John F. Kennedy International Airport, The Wall Street Journal reported yesterday.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is looking for a developer to build a small hotel in the space between the landmark old terminal and the new JetBlue Terminal at JFK.
Balazs’s firm, Andre Balazs Properties, appears on a list of those that attended a site visit earlier this month.
The list reflects an interest in the project from developers and architects who have been associated with high-end, luxury hotels — exactly the type of project the Port Authority is looking to build.
The project has attracted interest from a range of players, some of whom have experience working on similar projects.
