JPMorgan Chase & Co. and the biggest US banks face billions of dollars in legal costs related to their role in the financial crisis, threatening their profits and the stock price gains they made in 2010, analysts said.

JPMorgan reported $5.2 billion of legal costs in the first nine months of last year, compared with a gain of $10 million in the same period a year earlier.
