Bloomberg LP named its first chief marketing officer in the company’s history as it looks to counter a slump in sales of its financial-data terminals.

The news and information giant founded by Mayor Mike Bloomberg tapped Maureen McGuire, a 30-year veteran of IBM and the former CMO of Sears and Kmart, for the newly created position.

* The Post reported earlier this month that Bloomberg was close to naming its first marketing chief to help boost its brand.

The Wall Street meltdown has taken a bite out of Bloomberg’s bread-and-butter terminal business, which accounts for most of its $6 billion-plus in annual revenue.

At the end of April, Bloomberg’s terminal leases had fallen 2.8 percent, to a total of 280,000 screens.
