Bob Marley is about to light up the marketing world again — as the face of a global pot brand.

The late reggae legend’s heirs have signed a deal with a private-equity firm to create Marley Natural, a premium pot line cultivated from “heirloom Jamaican cannabis strains.”

The firm, Privateer Holdings, is also planning to produce a range of other pot-derived products under Marley’s name, including hemp-infused lotions and accessories, that will capitalize on the growing legalized marijuana industry.

The products will launch next year, Privateer said. The exclusive deal with Marley’s heirs, including daughter Cedella and son Rohan, is a 30-year global licensing agreement whose financial terms weren’t disclosed.

The Jamaican music icon was a fan of what he liked to call “the herb,” which he said “brought him inner peace and furthered his creativity,” according to a statement from his family on Tuesday.

Nearly three decades after his death, Marley’s popularity has steadily grown. During the past year, he was the ninth-highest-paid dead celebrity, with earnings of $20 million, according to Forbes — more than Marilyn Monroe or John Lennon generated.

“We’re talking about a brand that has immediate global name recognition,” said Brendan Kennedy, Privateer’s chief executive and co-founder.

In addition to a best-selling recording artist, Jamaica-born Bob Marley was a follower of the Rastafari religion, which considered ganja, or marijuana, to be a sacrament.
