Burger King is brewing up a breakfast war with an app-based deal that lets folks score a cup of coffee for as little as 17 cents, the fast-food giant said Friday.
Caffeine junkies who sign up for the restaurant’s new $5-per-month subscription app get one small cup of Joe daily.
Customers who use it daily would be set back roughly 17 cents per cup.
The buzz-worthy new bargain may be meant to burn companies such as Starbucks, Wendy’s and Taco Bell, which are duking it out for a piece of the breakfast market.
“Enjoy BK Cafe app for a month for the price of a large cappuccino from Starbucks,” an ad for the app proclaims.
At Wendy’s, a small cup of coffee goes for 99 cents; Taco Bell charges $1.49. Starbucks’ small brew — a “tall”— costs $1.85.
To sign up, users must download the “BK app” and click a tab daily to redeem the beverage.
The restaurant says it makes the brew with “100 percent Arabica beans” — but some coffee buffs were quick to point out it’s not exactly rocket fuel, according to the food-centric news site, The Takeout.
“Look, I’m no coffee connoisseur, but a small coffee? That’s going to keep me happy for like 28 minutes, max,” one observer said.
The deal is offered at participating locations only, according to the press release.
