Durable goods orders rose 1.1 percent last month on strong demand for transportation equipment, the Commerce Department said. Economists had expected orders to rise just 0.4 percent.

T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom, said CEO Philipp Humm is stepping down to take a job with an unnamed competitor in Europe. The company named COO Jim Alling as interim CEO and said that a search for a successor is already underway.
