Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Lloyd Blankfein and other bank officials won the dismissal of a shareholder lawsuit accusing them of tolerating poor mortgage practices and quitting a federal bailout program early to boost executive pay.
Retail rising
Retail sales rose 0.8 percent from June to July, the Commerce Department said. It was the sharpest increase since February.

Michael Kors Holdings, the luxury-goods company founded by the designer of that name, soared 16.5 percent to $49.33 after raising its profit forecast. The stock has more than doubled since the Hong Kong-based company’s initial public offering in December.

IHS reported that Apple’s shipments of iPad tablets surged 44 percent to 17 million in the second quarter.
