Karp windfall
Yahoo’s recent acquisition of Tumblr includes a $110 million payment to Tumblr founder David Karp, 27, as long as he remains on the job for the next four years. The payment will consist of $70 million in stock and options and $40 million in cash.
Priceline pop
Priceline.com reported second-quarter sales that exceeded analysts’ estimates as international travelers flocked to the service.
Fewer claims
Applications for unemployment benefits over the past four weeks dropped to a seasonally adjusted 335,500, the Labor Department said yesterday. That’s the lowest level since November 2007, one month before the recession began.
Retail slide
Revenue at stores open at least a year rose 3.8 percent in July, the slowest pace since March, according to results of a tally of 10 retailers released yesterday by the International Council of Shopping Centers.
Monster bash
Monster Beverage reported a lower-than-expected quarterly profit, hurt by a stronger dollar and legal costs related to its Monster Energy drinks.
